Calico & Old Lace began in 1989 as a hobby for the long winters on the mountain, snowed in, and wondering what to do with the scraps of fabric I collected over the years with my mother. (IMG_3676.JPG). Mom and I quilted many things over the years, selling at consignment shops and showing quilts at the APVA ( Assoc. for the Preservation of VA. Antiquities, Fredericksburg, VA.). As I continued quilting, I expanded my skills to include Seminole patchwork, free motion quilting, reverse applique, and thread sketching on the sewing machine. I quilt jackets, vests, skirts, wedding gowns and wall hangings using these skills. It grew into a passion.
I am a self-taught seamstress, though I have learned along the way from various teachers, allies, and good customers. I work as a sole proprietor out of my home studio in Floyd, VA. I am a juried member in Heartwood and Round the Mountain-the gateway to the artisan trails, and I am juried into the Artisans' Center of VA. in Waynesboro, VA. I participate in the Floyd Artisan Trails with open studio sales throughout the year.
