CALICO & OLD LACE began as a hobby in 1989 for the long winters on the mountain, snowed in, and wondering what to do with the scraps of fabric collected over the years. I learned to piece traditional quilts.
As I continued quilting, I expanded my skills to include Seminole Patchwork, Free Motion quilting, reverse applique and thread sketching on the sewing machine. I sell my quilted things on consignment at local shops in southwest Virginia, through Floyd Artisans Trail Open Studio events, or by commissioned orders. Custom orders for quilts and tailored clothing offer a more personal quilt for an heirloom worth cherishing.
Quilting is my passion and I enjoy piecing colorful fabrics to create uniquely beautiful works of art. The quilting designs are either traditional patterns passed down through the generations or original designs reflecting modern art quilts. Quilted wearables are unique ways to express one’s colorful personality reflecting personal or seasonal designs just fun to wear. The garments are embellished with buttons, beads, old lace or fragmented jewelry. Outdated clothing such as those old beloved “jeans jackets” or favorite skirt or used wedding gown can be upcycled into new pieces of quilted art, either wearable or decorative for home or office.
